Canterbury Museum is open every day (except Christmas Day)
Summer hours (October – March)
9.00 am – 5.30 pm
Winter hours (April – September)
9.00 am – 5.00 pm
General admission to the Museum is free, donations are appreciated.
Discovery entry is $2.00 per person, free entry for children under three.
Where are we?
Christchurch is the main city of the Canterbury region, in the South Island of New Zealand.
Canterbury Museum is on Rolleston Avenue at the end of Worcester Boulevard by the Botanic Gardens, just over 500 metres from Cathedral Square.
How to get here
Drive
It is easy to drive into Christchurch city and find a place to park. Parking charges are reasonable and there is metered parking on the streets surrounding the Museum. The Rolleston Avenue car park, opposite the Museum, offers Pay and Display parking and there is free three-hour parking in the Botanic Gardens (use the Armagh Street entrance).
There are many other parking facilities nearby.
Bus
Christchurch's bus service provides convenient and affordable travel into central Christchurch. Some routes include the Museum and the central bus terminus is just 10 minutes walk from the Museum.

Walk
Canterbury Museum is a 10-minute walk from Cathedral Square and central Christchurch hotels. From the Museum it is a short stroll to the Botanic Gardens, The Christchurch Arts Centre and Christchurch Art Gallery.
