Documentary Research Centre
The Documentary Research Centre is a rich storehouse of Canterbury's written and pictorial heritage, with more than one million items available to the public. As well as many local books, the collections of letters and diaries, club and society records, photographs, paintings, architectural plans and maps, provide an insight into the region's history. Documentary Research Centre staff have significant skills in historical and family history research, information systems, and the care of heritage material.
As well as rare local publications, visitors can look at original manuscripts, diaries written on immigrant ships, and the large collection of local photographs, which give a unique window into life in the region.
